Things That Motivate You To Become A Better Individual (Self-Improvement Counseling)

As human beings, we want to excel in every field choice we have in our lives. We want to become better in ways that we can. That is the reason we strive hard for perfection. But the fact that not every one of us can do a lot of things becomes a problem. Despite our motivation and encouragement to develop ourselves, some do not benefit from hard work and perseverance.

It is essential to understand that personal development is an ongoing process that we need to grow. Thus, we need to secure our mental and emotional abilities to become more resilient in handling difficult situations. Fortunately, some things can motivate us to become better individuals with improved personalities.

Speak Thoughts Carefully – The common thing that ruins our disposition in almost anything we do is anger. With that, we need to understand the importance of carefully delivering our thoughts before it becomes an unnecessary expression from our mouth. We need to practice talking softly and staying calm only to spit out necessary words.

Be A Decisions-Maker – Personal growth requires an ability to create strong and meaningful choices. To put worth in everything we do, we need to make decisions that we can stand for. We have to come up with better judgment without hesitations to prepare ourselves to accept the consequences.

Learn From Mistakes – An important factor of self-development is learning from mistakes, especially when we can’t manage the situation. It will help if we commit to changing our negative ways and stay practical in facing every challenge in our lives. We need to accept and learn from our past experiences to focus on finding ourselves moving forward.

Set Up Goals – To help us in our overall development, we need to set up meaningful and achievable goals. Setting up goals in life can provide us specific direction so we can focus on what’s important. It gives us personal satisfaction and a sense of purpose. Life goals are beneficial in strengthening our motivation and decision-making abilities, making us one step ahead in controlling our future.

Pay Attention To Reactions – Facial expression is one of the significant signs that can show our feelings. It can tell whether we are happy, upset, or disappointed about something. Our face becomes the most recognizable thing that people notice as they serve as our obvious expression even without saying anything. It would be helpful to keep up with a neutral facial response to control ourselves even in uncomfortable situations.

Proper Use of Body Language – It is vital to use the right positive body language to become approachable, professional, and confident individuals. Our body language can represent a lot about our personality as it can help us pick up on unspoken issues or negative feelings of other people. Using our body language properly can allow us to strengthen our verbal messages.

Practice Good Manners – It is significantly important to have good manners and the right etiquette. No, we shouldn’t strive to become perfect. But we should realize the importance of acceptable behaviors towards social and professional engagement. We have to educate ourselves on respecting others as much as we want them to respect us.

Always Lend A Hand – Helping others is one way to boost our self-confidence and self-worth. The idea of providing people with the assistance they need is also beneficial to our mental and emotional health. Helping others doesn’t have to be extravagant. Instead, it should be meaningful. Every action we do that makes other people happy can create a huge impact on everyone’s overall wellness.

Have A Sense Of Humor – Self-development has a lot to do with how we picture situations. When we learn to shake things or try to laugh negative things off, the act guards us against mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Humor can relieve and activate our stress response, enhancing our self-awareness towards difficult things.

Overcome Worries And Fears – Overcoming worries and fears can be a tough strategy for self-improvement. But it is not impossible to do. We need to understand that there are uncertainties in life that we can’t control. But the way we respond to negativity is something we can work on with. Breaking free from worries and fears means that we prepare ourselves for great otherwise unforeseen opportunities that might come our way.

Personal Update – Working on self-development can be too daunting. That is why we need to always update ourselves in becoming better. We need to go back to the first reason we need to significantly improve to remind ourselves why we shouldn’t stop working on the positive things. We need to understand ourselves better so we can continue to put up with the best.

Take Note Of These Habits That Destroy Your Success (Personal Development Counseling)

As an individual, you are prone to a certain amount of stress. That is because you have goals in your hands that you want to achieve. And part of the process is the struggle in keeping your aspirations intact. Unfortunately, there are instances that you lose focus on what you have to do. Don’t worry because that is entirely normal. There are so many things that you can’t handle, even if you think you have all the ability to accomplish things you already planned.

Nevertheless, your inability to continue working on your objectives also has a lot to do with your habits. If you are doing things positively, then you can expect something good in return. But if not, then you should prepare yourself for the not-so-pleasant outcome. So with that specific point of view, here is the list of habits that you should note as they destroy your potential success.

Practicing Similar Bad Habits

It is okay to come up with habits that you think are helpful to your success. However, it becomes a negative thing when you surround yourself with it over and over again. If you allow yourself to get stuck in a recycled idea and won’t exert an effort to come up with a fresh and better one, you will be most likely to end up losing the will to move forward.

It is entirely okay to believe in something. But you have to make sure that what you believed in can push you towards your goals. Your ideas should not limit what you think is only applicable and what others say is okay. Expose yourself to opinions to allow a diverse perspective. Allow things, events, and people to challenge you to change and approach everything differently.

Having Unproductive Work

Before you praise yourself for being busy all the time, remember that there is a thin line between busy and productive. Busy people consume time without actually achieving results. Busy people often work with many tasks they think they can manage in a short period but always end up with unfinished ones. They are so caught up with so many things that they usually have no time to evaluate their progress.

On the other hand, productive people are efficient as they maximize their ability to accomplish small goals one at a time. They use their schedules accordingly to avoid working on useless tasks that take more energy, time, and effort. Productive people ensure to move forward with their significant goals.

Criticizing Specific Flaws

It is entirely a bad habit when you constantly pay too much attention to your flaws. If you waste your life constantly worrying about things you believe are wrong with you, you will most likely become insecure, anti-social, anxious, and depressed. You’ll never stop punishing yourself for having weaknesses. You will become more close-minded, and you won’t see and appreciate all the good things about you.

Your constant habit of criticizing your flaws will outshine your positive characteristics and qualities, leading to damaged self-esteem. If you don’t focus on your strengths, you are not going to find success. So start acknowledging your capabilities and encourage yourself to become more appreciative of your uniqueness.

Seeking Regular Validation

It is quite impossible to convince you not to listen to other people’s opinions. As much as you want to avoid them, they are people in your life that you want to get regular validations with. These people are so special to you that you care about what they think. Unfortunately, this is a very challenging habit to break. There is this urge to want others to notice, like, and appreciate you.

Frankly, you do not need their approval. You do not have to follow other people’s standards only to defy value and worth. Constantly relying on their judgment can bring toxicity to your life, leaving you unable to make critical decisions for your own sake. Therefore, quit worrying about what they think because their opinions won’t matter at the end of the day.

Pretending To Be Someone You’re Not

One of the worse habits that you should avoid is pretending to be someone you are not. That is because faking your identity can cause a lot of damage to your personal and professional life. Not only will other people lose respect for you, but you will also sabotage your relationship with them. They will avoid you because they will feel unsure about the things you show and do for them. They will have doubts.

You must stay the way you are so you won’t have to chase the idea of becoming someone admirable. Be mindful that being unique is much better than trying to fit in. Be confident and be true to yourself because you’re special just the way you are.

Frequently Asked Questions About Killer Anxiety

As we experience a lot of uncertainties in our lives, we get to feel a little overwhelmed. We often have this outlook that everything we deal with, especially about things we cannot control, is too much to handle. Sometimes, even if we know we can manage or deal with our mental and emotional stress, we believe that the struggle is unbearable. You see, the problem with that is our mindset. We often think that anxiety, when it hits us unexpectedly, is already a dying moment. We get to stop doing what we love, we stop spending time with people, and we stop taking care of ourselves.

Source: pixabay.com

Truthfully, there is nothing scarier than not being able to recover from an emotional and mental breakdown. Perhaps that is the reason we stop thinking about possible solutions. We get tired and fed up with stress, so we begin to let it control us. And when it comes to our anxiety, we believe it even if sometimes it tends to be unrealistic. We rely on those negative ideas and view them as our reality. Unfortunately, that is where our mental condition becomes a lot worse.

But to be honest about my opinion, I don’t think anxiety is something that we should be afraid of. Yes, there is information that can support some claims about it being a killer psychological illness. But, I do consider the power of overall healing. I still believe that no matter what people have on their plate, they can struggle and still be fine after trying their best to recover.

Can anxiety be life-threatening?

In some instances, anxiety can be unpleasant and scary. However, there is nothing much to worry about since it is less likely to be life-threatening. Sometimes, even if an individual feels emotional, mentally, and physically in danger, the mental condition is highly responsive to treatment such as medication, psychotherapy, and lifestyle changes.

Can you die from anxiety and stress?

Unfortunately, some extreme stress or anxiety levels can increase the risk of stroke and fatal heart attacks. Cardiovascular damage can be anything that comes from unhealthy habits, such as smoking and alcohol misuse, common to mentally unstable people.

Can anxiety cause a heart attack?

Yes, lengthened periods of stress and anxiety may cause cardiovascular problems. That is due to the mental health condition’s association with surges of the stress hormone cortisol. And with all the outpouring of other chemicals involved in the “fight or flight” response, the unstable state can lead to high blood pressure that causes extra strain on the heart, which is more likely to cause cardiac events.

How many people die because of anxiety?

High occurrence of anxiety and other mental health disorders causes panic attacks that tend to cause heart problems. Thus, the recent meta-analysis indicated that millions of deaths worldwide are linked to anxiety and mood disorders approximately every year.

 What is Cardiac Anxiety?

Cardiac anxiety is the condition where an individual has an excessive fear of having heart failure. With this state, they constantly observe themselves and worry too much about their overall health, which puts them in a permanent alarm state.

How do you relax your heart?

To relax your heart, you need to try to remain calm. By doing that, you need to practice deep breathing. This method will give you enough time to think about your next step in keeping your overall wellness stable. It will also benefit the heart if you practice stretching and relaxation exercises, such as yoga. Also, consider going for a walk, taking warm showers, and getting enough sleep.

How do you cure a stressed heart?

Curing a stressed heart requires a positive mindset. It would help if you laughed more, exercise regularly, learn to meditate frequently, and spend time with good, influenced people. It is also important that you unplug yourself from toxicity and try your best to keep away from unwanted stress.

How can I relax my heart from anxiety?

You can always relax your heart, depending on your needs. Usually, participating in relaxation methods such as progressive muscle relaxation and deep breathing can reduce heart rate problems. Deep breathing helps stimulate the nerve and helps reduce the chemicals that cause abnormal levels of ‘fight or flight’ response.

Is it my heart or anxiety?

Usually, people with acute anxiety often feel like they have a heart attack. Perhaps that is because many of the symptoms can seem the same for both conditions. Their similarity includes tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, a pounding heartbeat, dizziness, sweating, and even physical dysfunction or momentary paralysis.

What is a good heart rate fora specific age?

A normal heart rate is considered a good heart rate in children ages 6 – 15 with 70 – 100 beats per minute and adults age 18 and over with 60 – 100 beats per minute.

What is a bad heart rate?

You should consult a health professional and ask for medical attention if your heart rate is high and is above 100 beats per minute or often below 60. A low resting heart rate or a high maximum heart rate is more likely associated with potential danger.

How do you know if your heart is healthy?

You can test if your heart is healthy by immediately testing after resting for one minute. You can do that after exercising or finishing any intense physical movement. Ideally, your rate should have dropped by 20 beats or more. And when you can quickly rebound to your normal heart rate, that means you have a healthy heart.

 Insight

All of us know how to manage our stress and anxiety. But unfortunately, not all of us have the courage to do so. Some of us can get a little preoccupied with many distractions that can take us away from thinking about positive things. Thus, our mental health problems tend to grow far worse than what we already experience is high. Instead of holding on to what we can’t control, it would much nicer to deal with it slowly and productively.

How To Effectively Support Your Team’s Mental Health

Most people around the world thought the COVID-19 pandemic was going to end in a few months. But one by one, companies, regardless of size, started laying off people from their teams. Some businesses had no choice but to close down. With all that is happening, even employees who are still with their current companies are suffering from anxiety and stress, worrying whether they will still have a job tomorrow or not.

According to a global study, 70% of workers are more stressed and anxious than before. The work-life balance has been severely impacted by the current workplace setup. Aside from this, social interactions have become less frequent, which made reaching out even more challenging despite the advanced technology.

These factors contribute to how your team manages their tasks effectively. As a leader, how do you ensure that responsibilities are taken care of while keeping your team happy? We list down some of the things that may help.

Source: unsplash.com
  • Keep Your Personal Mental Health In Check

Handling a team is more stressful than being in one. You are mostly accountable for what the team does, how they perform, and the quality of the outputs. As a leader, you have to be warier of your emotional intelligence to ensure that you know how to manage your mental health.

You have to maintain positivity within the team without resorting to “toxic positivity.” Toxic positivity disregards the emotional and mental needs of your teammates. It just focuses on staying positive. It completely misses the feelings and emotions of other people in a particular situation.

As a leader, you need to be sure that your mental health is stable to avoid this. A healthy and sufficient emotional quotient will enable you to listen and attend to your team’s needs.

It will also help open up a bit more to them and show a specific vulnerability. Doing so will increase trust and honesty that will promote open communication within the team. Your teammates or the members of your organization may also learn new insights on coping strategies from you.

  • Treat Emotional Issues The Same Way As Physical Issues

Sick leaves often equate to physical illness alone. These off days are most often used when employees are down due to having cough, colds, feverishness, etc. Some still get uncomfortable and hesitant, asking for an off day because of the emotional weight they carry.

As leaders, you have to be empathetic towards your group, especially during this pandemic. Work-induced strain has dramatically increased because we do not have something to look forward to, such as vacations, catching up with friends, weekend getaways, and the like.

Emotional and mental health should bear the same weight as physical health.

The leader’s responsibility nowadays is geared towards the business’s success. It is also ensuring that you can impact the well-being of the people that you handle.

  • Help Your Team Be “Emotionally Literate”

Emotional literacy is the same as learning how to read and write. It knows how to ascertain when you have a healthy mental state or not. However, being emotionally literate is not something that was taught to us in school. It is something that we still need to develop and learn as time goes by.

As a leader, one of the best ways to support your team is by knowing and understanding how to regulate your emotions. When a leader is capable of doing so, the flock will follow. The best way to showcase this to your team is by leading by example.

Understand that emotional literacy is not something that they can go through alone. Sometimes, an employee’s true potential is unleashed when they feel that their emotions and mental well-being are valid and genuinely cared for.

It may also be the time to get to know the members of your team better. You may use this to unleash their creativity and find out if they have other skills to contribute to the organization. Emotional literacy is a two-way street and helps your organization establish a healthier workspace throughout this digital era.

The pandemic is not something that we were ready for. There were no handbooks nor preparations on how it should be handled. It has dramatically impacted the economy. It has created the loss of businesses and the loss of lives that adversely affected our mental well-being as workers and ordinary people living our day-to-day lives.

However, this pandemic has also shown us that mental health should no longer be a taboo topic. It is something that we should recognize, and that the workplace should pioneer a human-centered leadership.

Leaders need to keep in mind that discussion and communication regarding mental health should be promoted in the workplace. Mental health and emotional well-being should also be included as a leadership skill to function effectively and to be able to fully support everyone on the team.

How To Move Past Negative-Thinking Family Members

Have you ever been around a strongly opinionated person? You know, someone who always has something to say about someone or a situation. Even if their opinion is not essential or relevant, they feel like giving one. It does not bother them whether you bluntly say, “Keep your thoughts to yourself” — they will tell you what’s in their mind anyway.

Unfortunately, many people in my family are heavily opinionated. You cannot walk in a room full of them without commenting on everything, from your weight to your nail color. It is as if you need to hear all that when your only goal is to get water from the kitchen. If you try to ignore them, they call you disrespectful. The nerve!

The reality is that, trying to make such family members change is comparable to asking cows to stop mooing. They are all adults; they have reached their respective ages acting like that. Hence, there is no way for them to want to make internal changes anytime soon. Insisting on the latter will only hurt you more than it should.

Despite that, your negative-thinking family should never stop you from following your heart, trying new things, and reaching for your dreams. If I allowed my folks to get to me, I wouldn’t be where I am now, and you wouldn’t be able to read this. Like most conventional people, they always said that writing was suitable for ultra-rich individuals or those who didn’t mind being poor forever.

Do you want to know how to move past a similar hurdle?

Know Yourself Well

The first thing you must do is get to know yourself. You can never counter anyone’s criticisms when you cannot even decide about what you are fighting for.

One of the questions you should ask yourself is, “Who are you?” The answer should not be merely your name, but what you aspire to become. In my case, the proper reply is, “I’m a writer.”

Another ideal question is, “How much do I want to turn into this person?” If it is so bad that you are unafraid of possibly getting disowned by your parents, go for it. If you cannot give a sound answer, though, then perhaps you should wait before taking action. The worst-case scenario is that you hear your family members taunting you with I-told-you-so messages.

Own Up To Your Mistakes

Sometimes, the negative thinkers in your family are correct regarding their opinions. They have either been there and done what you are about to do or had known someone who has. That’s when their words of discouragement make sense, even though they sting.

Assuming your opinionated loved ones are correct, you should avoid acting sulky. It is a childish move, especially when it seems like their negative views are validated. Instead, you must own up to your mistakes and accept that you are not on the right side of things this time.

Should you disclose this realization to the family? That is entirely up to you, but there is technically no need for that. What matters the most is that you can learn from the failed incident and do everything to prevent experiencing a déjà vu.

Stay Away

When your goal is to keep your opinionated family members from ripping your confidence level and repeatedly stepping on it, you should stay away from them.

I can tell you first-hand how challenging it can be. That is especially true if you have get-togethers a few times a year. Worse, your negative-thinking loved ones have no idea that they are doing something wrong. In their mind, they merely want to help you.

At times like this, you have no choice but to make excuses so that you don’t see your family members. Lying is awful, but it may save you from heartaches and rifts. If they drag or carry you (literally) to the meeting place, though, try to avoid any opinionated aunt or cousin from cornering you. Ask your closest relative to stay by your side and talk to you about everything so that no one will dare to interrupt your conversation.

Final Thoughts

The social norms require everyone to follow their elders’ lead and whatever they tell you. If you do the opposite of that, you may earn wrong labels due to your rebelliousness or mischievousness.

As difficult as it may be to swallow the latter, you must keep in mind that social norms are nothing but unwritten rules that humans have all been following over the years. You can never go to jail for defying your parents or wanting to prove to them that they have wasted their time by thinking negatively. If you can pull it off, your loved ones may start looking at you in a different light and holding their tongue before giving you another unsolicited opinion.

Strategies For Keeping Yourself Driven Amidst COVID-19

Source: pickpik.com

As shelter-in-place and social distancing measures are implemented countrywide, a lot of students who have just graduated are slowly embracing the fact that they will initially be working from their homes and doing distance learning for a while. The ongoing changes caused by COVID-19 have made focusing on classes and reviews very difficult for many of them, although it has also made things more transparent – that for the long term, this is going to be the new normal.

If you are one of these graduate students, your responsibilities remain even after grad school, and like the others, you must try to stay ahead as much as possible. Try and get some pointers from BetterHelp.com.

Here are some strategies for keeping yourself driven despite the pressures and challenges caused by COVID-19.

Create Small But Relevant Goals For Every Day

It is vital to acknowledge that these challenging times are not ordinary, and your output or efficiency would most likely not be at their highest. That is fine. Creating daily things to do can help improve your productivity. The best way to do it is to set realistic goals that emphasize the most important things you can achieve for today that you can finally cross out from your list. Finish writing your homework for the next day. Start your project draft. Learn one digital tool. Your tasks should be practical and manageable.

Source: pexels.com

Schedule Your Day In A Way That Relaxation Is Incorporated With Work

Working at home may be more convenient, but it can be more arduous to fulfill your tasks when the urge to watch your favorite series seems so strong with the television just right in front of you. For other people, working from home could lead to a severe circumstance of overwork, which in turn might lead to over-fatigue. Try structuring your day by giving yourself time for work and play. This will help you attain a stable work-life balance even while working at home. The important thing is that you commit a part of your day to do your work obligations and then forget about it when it’s time for you to relax. Check out some strategies you use from this Facebook page.

Plan Online Chitchats With Your Friends

The toughest aspect of this global health crisis for most people is social distancing. It is hard not to be able to be with family and close friends, but social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t see and talk with them. Organize online chitchat with your friends during your break and let them know ahead of time so they can also finish what they need to do before your virtual get-together. When you set a date and time to meet up with them virtually, you look forward to cleaning up your to-do list and emptying your weekend just for the most-awaited catching up with your loves.

Accept That You Won’t Be As Productive As You Were Before The Pandemic

There are days when you might not have the energy or inspiration to work hard, but don’t pressure yourself. Expect that productivity may be reduced for now, especially during the gloomy days when you remember how much of your life has been affected by this global crisis. When this happens, make sure that you fulfill your prioritized tasks for that day. Finish these tasks and then take a breather. Don’t beat yourself up because sometimes it’s okay not to always stay on top of your game. Remind yourself to take care of your mental health.

Source: pickpik.com

Keep Track Of Your Mental Health

Staying driven may be almost impossible when the world is facing chaos, and your family and friends can’t seem to comfort each other physically. No work strategy is going to help much when you are over-stressed, and right now, there is just so much to be anxious and stressed about. Do try to stay healthy physically and mentally during these COVID times.

Do something physical every day, like walking a few rounds in your garden or performing some jumping ropes and calisthenics while watching television. Eat right – or at least try to – with a balance of fruits, meat, and vegetables. Step out of your workspace during lunch breaks and take a nap or short rest. Don’t watch too much news to the point where it gives you bad vibes the whole day. Lastly, get adequate sleep.

Staying Positive Despite The Devastating Pandemic

Source: wallpaperflare.com

When all you hear is bad news – since the coronavirus hit the world – it’s challenging to stay positive and hopeful. Indeed, we should take this global pandemic seriously. It can cause debilitating diseases, even death, and extreme changes in the way we live and make a living. Worst, it can bring the world economy to its downfall. That’s why it’s so easy to focus on disasters like this one. Up until today, COVID-19 and its negative impact on us seem to be the major topics that we see everywhere.

These sad and depressing thoughts are definitely counter-productive. But let’s not let them dominate us. We have to arm ourselves with knowledge about the outbreak and how we can protect our loved ones and ourselves. We don’t need to be experts to lean these things, nor do we need to listen to all the bad news that will only do us more harm than good. Let’s focus on making a positive difference and spreading good vibes to the people around us. Here are some simple things that we can do.

Be Reminded Of The Past, But Don’t Dwell In It

Gather strength and hope from past experiences that have helped you become stronger. Undoubtedly, you have endured one or two challenges in your life, like hurricanes or financial distress. You’re here now, and you made it through, so think and believe that you will get through this as well.

Source: killybegsonline.org

Don’t Over-Consume

This applies to almost everything. Don’t overeat, or else you’ll develop chronic conditions in the long run. Additionally, I know Netflix is a big hit, especially in our shelter in place moments, but don’t sit and watch movies all day and forget about your health and your future. Limit yourself to one movie and take a break to work out or do something worthwhile. Watching unpleasant news the whole day won’t help either. It will only increase your anxiety and stress levels. So turn that television off and spend time planting in your garden or cooking something delicious for the family.

Care For Your Neighbors

You’re lucky if the whole family and safe and healthy with enough food to eat and water to drink. But what about your neighborhood? How are they holding up? If they’re not as fortunate as you, is there something you can do to at least lighten their burdens? Maybe share some of your food or water? How are they feeling? Check on them through the phone or virtually. Ask if they’re feeling well. If there’s someone who is sick or tired, make it your responsibility to call the necessary hotlines so medical care will reach them.

Support Local Businesses

Social distancing guidelines are placed upon all communities and must be heeded. Despite this, many small businesses are doing what they can to thrive, and you can help them in your own little way. Restaurants are currently not allowed to receive dine-in customers, so perhaps you can order some food from your local diners once in a while. You might need some things for the house, and a community shop is willing to take orders online, so check it out. There may be things you can buy from them. It’s time to help your community now more than ever.

Be Kind To Others

Leave a tip for the delivery guy who brings your food when you don’t have time to cook. Have some coffee delivered for your next-door neighbor who seems tired of working and taking care of his family. Write a short but uplifting message to someone’s wall today. Or just send an e-card to the people you haven’t seen since the pandemic started. Your little acts of kindness will surely go a long way for those who need it.

During these challenging and unpleasant times, all of us need something to hold on to – a positive note, a smile to brighten one’s day, or a hug to comfort the sad. Staying positive will help families, and communities get by and even survive this global crisis. It doesn’t cost a thing, so give it sparingly. We can do this. Spread some positivity! If you still find yourself worried about all the uncertainties around you, get online support from BetterHelp. You can send a message on their accounts on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Ironies Of Life In The Business World

ironies-of-life-in-the-business-world
Source: rawpixel.com

The 2018 World Business Forum is the last business-related conference that I ever attended. It was not because others banned me from coming, no. In reality, I received a few more invitations after that, which I declined politely.

The reason was that the process became a little too old for me. I used to go to such events to shake hands with CEOs and sometimes join the panel. I would bump shoulders with wide-eyed entrepreneurs or competitors, acting all excited to see each other. Despite that, we all knew that we were merely sizing one another up.

I guess I had gotten more cynical as I aged, but you ought to realize the ironies of life in the business world.

Someone’s Downfall Can Be Your Success
When a company files for bankruptcy, it means that you have fewer rivals than before. You may express sympathy when you cross paths with the failed businessman, but you won’t go as far as consoling them. Instead, a lot of business folks even hold a party for someone’s loss because it can open the gates to their success.

ironies-of-life-in-the-business-world
Source: rawpixel.com

Bad Publicity Is Still A Publicity
People in business are no different from celebrities, in the sense that they welcome any publicity. Were you caught committing infidelity, for instance? That’s awful for your marriage, and your company may get dragged in the mud, but it still gets your brand in media outlets.

You’ve Made It When Others Spread Rumors About Your Business
Some competitors can go as far as spreading rumors about your company. Whether they are true or not, the fact that they spend so much time plotting against you is incredible. It typically indicates that your presence in the business world threatens them too much to hit you below the belt.

Final Thoughts
You have every right to disagree with the thoughts above that I fondly call as the ironies of life. However, I doubt that you will. Deep down, you know that there’s truth in every word, and we all have to live with it.

Still, no matter how much you struggle, try not to be the kind of business who does all those shady things. You can always be better than that.

How Leadership Affects The Workplace

Source: pixabay.com

There is so much diversity in the workplace nowadays, especially when a leader is expected to take care of everything. People are not born with an above-level quality of conflict management, so the process of addressing issues within any kind of scope is complicated. It requires skills and a better understanding of a lot of possible causes of social conflict.

According to business psychologist April Lyons, “The understanding, regulation, and use of emotions by leaders can have a substantial impact on their ability to lead. This connection is supported by research showing that emotional skills are critical to the successful performance of individuals at the executive level. Further, the more someone progresses through the organizational hierarchy, the more important emotional skills become in their success.”

In most companies, there’s a tendency that people will try to avoid confrontation. They somehow create an illusion of harmony that’s not even present in the workplace. The method may apply to some conditions, but in the long run, it will create interruption and disruption among employees. So when there is no resolution to the issue, we can conclude that the work environment is not conducive enough for positive development.

What Is Leadership?

Leadership is the art of encouraging and inspiring others to contribute their effort, abilities, and minds to a particular goal or vision. It aims to reach and achieve success in the most productive way possible. Since building a positive working environment requires deep and committed relations among involved people, leadership stands to be its control system. It supports a network with high values, respect, transparency, and integrity.

The Scope Of Leadership

Leadership is never a popularity contest. It is more like a commitment and a full-pledged responsibility. It doesn’t require favorable returns, but rather signifies respect. People need it to be efficient and motivated. It’s the heart of every team and the foundation of every task. Since leading requires an excellent example of all positive approach, one must understand the values it contains. Leaders must act as models of the behavior they expect of others.

Finding Voice And Affirm Shared Ideas – Leadership affects the behavior and productivity of the team. It’s a tool for guiding common ideals and principles between a leader and its members. It helps in aligning actions with shared respect and values to achieve target-present and future goals. Since understanding how diverse views can lead to the creation of another idea, identifying and working on the same purpose and objective must take place.

Leadership Consistency – The process of handling people is difficult, especially when not all of them openly agree with everything a leader tells them. The way of modeling a leader’s process of earning respect requires involvement and direct action. Therefore, a leader’s words and deeds must stay consistent. Though in some instances, a leader’s work is more important than his words because it will determine how strong-minded and committed he is in his position.

Eric Haseltine, Ph.D. has this to say about Walmart’s success: “In other words, it didn’t matter how well things were going for Walmart, Sam and the rest of the company were never satisfied with the status quo, and constantly strove to find new opportunities and new ways of doing business. This constant passion for innovation and change drove Walmart inexorably to the top.”

Personal-Best Projects – A good leader sets an example through different tasks that affect both the positive and negative statuses of a workplace. There’s a required demonstration from a leader of how to sustain and commit to his beliefs. It looks back on the history of personal-best projects that resulted from steadfastness, relentless effort, attention to detail, and competence. There must be a maintained performance to strive for the betterment of the resolutions along the way of achieving success.

Strategic Approach – A Leadership ensures guidelines, procedures, and systems to work so it can assist the team adequately. It creates a strategy that convinces its people to participate willingly without having so much of a complaint. Leadership is responsible for understanding and communicating with its members so they can all build a deliberate vision and decision of the organization’s familiar challenges.

Psychologist Antonette Zeiss answered in an interview about leadership, “Never turn your back on a wave. This is a metaphor meaning be willing to stay involved even when there are big waves coming in. You can ride some of them, can ride over some of them—there are many ways to manage them, but make sure not to avoid them. See them as opportunities, not something to avoid.”

In a workplace highly swamped with diverse people, leadership takes the process of attaining harmony and peace. Its domain is not about demanding or wanting positive results to happen. But instead, it aims for an available and manageable system of a more willing and motivated people.

Encouraging One’s Self to Move Forward And Let Go

The things that happened in the past are the things that aren’t happening right now. Stop locking yourself in the darkness if you want to be free. Stop holding on to the negativity of the past and reach into the light of the present and the future. Release the heavyweight that burdens you if you entirely want to move on. Let go of the things that cripple you and be free. Stand up, fight, and move on.

“Holding on to pain doesn’t fix anything. Replaying the past over and over again doesn’t change it, and wishing things were different doesn’t make it so,” says Ilene Strauss Cohen Ph.D.

There’s always a moment for you to create the best life. You only need to stop allowing negative thoughts from stealing the joy you have. Don’t ever let it enter and live inside your head. Because if you continue to ignore the existence of the negative things around you, you’ll end up under its control. Sadly, it is the worst part of the battle that you might have to take.

It’s true that there are times that you won’t be able to handle all the life’s dilemmas and you will suffer from the pain and agony it brings. But it doesn’t have to stop you from moving forward. That’s life. The only way to handle all the emotional and psychological suffering is through your willingness to create a difference. Therefore, never allow it to invade your mind, change the way who you are, and affect the way you see things.

The Battles Of Your Mental Health

Each area of your life follows an order of existence. It doesn’t stay in one particular place but moves around in circles. The cycle of sadness, sorrow, anxiety, stress, and depression creates a system that blocks you from achieving what’s good in the world. By the time you notice the changes it could bring to you, you already might suffer more than you know. If this persists, seek help. Try BetterHelp.com.

When there’s a piece missing, you can expect something to fill that up. It could either be good or bad things, depending on what’s your current situation. But if your mind allows deterioration, then it is going to be so much harder for you to continue living. So before you make decisions that will affect the future, always consider taking the time. Breathe and picture out everything in your head first. Don’t rush into giving in, but don’t hold back to what makes you whole. Be prepared in facing every trial along the way and never surrender regardless of what happens. Remember, to always care for your well-being.

“It hurts. I get that. But what you do with that hurt is probably more important than the hurt itself. Would you prefer to get backd to being an active liver of life? Or do you prefer to ruminate endlessly about the past and something that cannot be changed?” – John Grohol, Psy.D.

Motivation Attracts Positivity

It’s hard to control life and expect things to happen the way you plan it. However, the motivation and goals you have might change everything.  If you focus on the good side, the reward of the hardship becomes ten times more fulfilling compared to the assumptions of getting it without spending an effort.

As John L. Schinnerer, Ph.D. wrote in his article, “If you are looking for the best results in your workforce, you will focus more of your time and energy on positive, internal motivation for yourself as well as others.”

Success is different when you put your heart and soul in it. It becomes something that pushes you towards happiness and satisfaction.

If you think about it, those people who are now experiencing a great life, they are not just lucky. They work hard on their dreams and make tons of sacrifices. They shed tears and sweat only to get to where they are. That’s because no one achieves anything without striving for it. No one becomes happy without telling themselves they have to. When things don’t turn out great for them, they immediately move on and start doing things all over again.

Your life is what you make. Every decision is your choice. So everything that happened and will happen to you is based on your thoughts, emotions, and actions. You can do anything. You only have to let go and move one. Seek help if you must.
